Understanding Jojoba Oil: A Clarification

Recently, I’ve received questions about my use of jojoba oil in the Vanilla Body Oil. Given that this “oil” is derived from the jojoba plant seed, it’s easy to see the confusion.

Despite common misconceptions, jojoba oil is not actually an oil but a liquid wax. Extracted from the seeds of the jojoba plant (Simmondsia chinensis), it differs significantly from other plant oils. While oils are made up of triglycerides, jojoba oil’s structure is unique – it consists of long-chain monounsaturated liquid wax esters.

This distinction is crucial for several reasons.

Stability and Longevity: The unique composition of jojoba oil makes it highly stable, meaning it resists rancidity better than high-PUFA seed oils. This stability ensures that your products maintain their quality and effectiveness over time.

Skin Compatibility: Jojoba oil closely resembles the natural sebum produced by our skin. This compatibility allows it to moisturize without clogging pores, making it an ideal ingredient for maintaining healthy, balanced skin.

Fatty Acid Profile: Unlike many seed oils high in polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs), jojoba oil has a low PUFA content. This aligns perfectly with my philosophy at SZIA SKIN, where I prioritize low-PUFA ingredients to support optimal skin health.

I understand the importance of transparency and education when it comes to the ingredients I use. Jojoba oil’s classification as a liquid wax ensures it aligns with SZIA SKIN’s "seed oil"-free promise while delivering exceptional benefits to your skin.
